I have accepted the Cycle for the Cure challenge!
I am one of 250 who will ride on Sunday, May 7th to fight cancer.
At age 63, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. August of 2008 was when my family’s life changed forever. My 2-year-old son and I spent the next few months commuting back and forth to Chicago helping my dad take her to treatments at the University of Chicago. I woke up everyday hopeful she would get better. My mom was strong and fearless, while I was at my weakest – overwhelmed with sadness. This will be my 8th Mother’s Day without my mom. A huge loss to our family – especially our 3 kids. 3 years later, my 85-year-old mother-in-law was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, her second battle with cancer. Despite her age, she fought hard, we all miss her so much. Doug and I had loving, creative, beautiful moms for a really long time… but not long enough. I feel so fortunate to have been able to donate my time for the the last 3 years to the American Cancer Society's gala.
On May 7th, I will be starting a new cancer fighting endeavor - T-Gen. You could say a more targeted approach.
At the heart of TGen's research efforts is the goal of improving patient care by delivering a personalized approach - one that looks at an individual's genetic makeup and then consults with physicians to give treatment based on your individual genetic profile, resulting in improved patient response.
Before you make a donation, by clicking the support me button, I encourage you to look at T-Gen's website: Tgen.org. They are doing amazing work.
No matter how small or large, 100% of your donation will go to help early detection efforts for cancer.
I started the ball rolling with $500. Anything helps! Thank you for supporting me! Love, Courtney
